George Holzer is an artist, photographer, digital printmaker, and teacher residing on the Eastern Shore of Maryland since 1991. Besides his own fine art photography, he is also involved in a number of art related activities including; photographing artwork for publication & portfolio, scanning & custom Photoshop work, fine art handling, fine art framing, exhibition lighting & installations, and teaching photography & Photoshop.
After receiving his Master of Fine Arts degree in photography (1981) from the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida, George stayed on to work at the University’s groundbreaking experimental, collaborative art facility, Graphicstudio. At the end of eight years at Graphicstudio, he moved to Maryland where he spent another eight years with Saff Tech Arts (STA), a unique atelier located in Oxford, Maryland directed by Donald Saff. STA specialized in experimental, often large scale, collaborative projects and required excellence in craftsmanship and the mindful, respectful concern for the artist’s intent and aesthetic within the collaborative process. Both studios produced works shown and archived at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, and many galleries in the USA and abroad. During his sixteen plus years at these studios, George gained experience in collaborating on experimental as well as traditional projects with artists such as Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein, James Rosenquist, James Turrell, Nancy Graves, Robert Mapplethorpe, Philip Pearlstein, Chuck Close, and Jim Dine among others.
In recent years George has collaborated on digital projects with internationally known artists Robert Rauschenberg and James Rosenquist, along with several print and photography projects for the Guggenheim Museum and The Brooklyn Museum in New York.
Currently, George is involved in photographing fine art for museums, galleries, artists, and websites. He is also consulting on and executing various museum and gallery installations & lighting, custom Photoshop work for a number of clients publishing books, and custom archival framing projects.
